This series takes place in Charming, which is a fictional village in California. The main characters involved in the story are the members of a motorcycle club, (Sons Of Anarchy) which commit crimes related to weapon trafficking, murder, extortion and gang wars. This series mainly reflects brotherhood and loyalty. The series also explores vigilantism, sexism, government corruption and racism, and depicts an outlaw motorcycle club as an analogy for human transformation. Real life Oakland Hells Angel David Labrava served as a technical adviser, and also played one of the main characters, Happy Lowman, the club's assassin. Producers: The series was created by Kurt Sutter. Sutter was also the showrunner, the series' most prolific writer, and a regular director; he directed each season finale. Sutter had previously worked as an executive producer for the FX series The Shield. The Sons of Anarchy's' other executive producers are father and son team Art Linson and John Linson; Jim Parriott served as an executive producer and writer for the first season only.Paris Barclay joined Sons of Anarchy as an executive producer in the fourth season, after directing episodes in the first and second season. In addition to serving as Executive Producer in the fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons, Barclay directed three episodes each season, including the season 4 and 5 premieres, the top two highest-rated telecasts in the history of FX.Jack LoGiudice served as a consulting producer and regular writer for the first season. He became co-executive producer for the second season, then left the series to work on The Walking Dead.Dave Erickson also worked as a consulting producer for the first and second seasons, and then took over as co-executive producer for the third season. The series' other regular writers are supervising producer Chris Collins and co-producer Regina Corrado. Shawn Rutherford joined as consulting producer for seasons 6 and 7.Sutter drew regular directors from The Shield including Stephen Kay, Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Guy Ferland, and Billy Gierhart. Type Of Audience: Sons of Anarchy's seventh and final season is indeed the most-watched episode in series history. In fact, with 9.25 million viewers from the first-run episode now that live-plus-three day viewing is in, it stands as the most-watched program in the history of the cable network. A whopping 6.1 million of those viewers were adults 18-49, giving it a 28 percent lift from the recent season average. That season, it should be noted, raised the FX ratings bar as the most-watched in its history as well. Although the series is set in California, it was filmed in North Hollywood. The production rooms at the studio used by the writing staff doubled as the Charming police station. External scenes were often filmed nearby in Sun Valley and Tujunga. Interior and exterior scenes set in Northern Ireland during season 3 were also filmed at Occidental Studios and surrounding areas. A second unit shot footage in Northern Ireland used in the third season. Camera Shots, Camera Movement, Editing Sound, Movement, Composition and Use Of Mise-En-Scene Paul Maibaum, director of Photography in the series declares about how the shots were made: So Paul, how would you explain the look and feel of Sons of Anarchy? Sons of Anarchy is like a modern-day Western with vistas and composition driving a look that harkens back to the movies of John Ford and Spaghetti Westerns. Only on this show the horses are motorcycles, and the code of the west is the code of the club. You shot around 60% of the show handheld, why was that? The challenge of developing the look for the show was to make it natural – not too slick. Handheld gives the narrative a feeling of immediacy that’s organic to the story. There are many non-verbal, dramatic elements that are signature shots of the show; it’s not rushed, in the sense that we like to get the reactions of the characters. You used OConnor fluid heads and Litepanels LED lighting fixtures during filming. Have you been using them for a while? I can't remember a project I've worked on where there weren’t at least two OConnor heads, going back to the days of the O'Connor 100. And I have used Litepanels’ Ringlite Minis, MiniPlus and 1×1 LED panels almost since they first came on the market. During the whole series, a huge variety of shots are used, for example: -Extreme Long Shot -Long Shot -Full Shot -Medium Long Shot -Medium Shot -Medium Close Up Shot -Close Up Shot -Extreme Close Up Shot -Bird’s Eye View -Worm’s Eye View -Over The Shoulder Shot -Action Shot (Most Used One, due to the use of motorcycles, and mainly action scenes with weapons, fights, persecutions...) The main soundtrack for the whole series are different rock songs, of varied rock bands, but the main one is “This Life”, which at the end connotes the story of the whole series, talking about riding alone through life, this is also reflected in the series, where the club seems as they are all like brothers, and loyal to each other, but then they betray each other and keep secrets that everyone should know to themselves, therefore, although they all ride their cycles in a group, at the end they are on their own. Diegetic sound in this series helps the audience to know better about the story, and is happening at every moment. communication between characters is very important, as they sometimes talk in a secret way. The most used camera shots are the Action shot, which is used in every episode several times, when the members of the club ride their cycles, or fight with other bands, or the police, or even a persecution or shooting is taking place. Over the shoulder and full shots are also used in every episode, when a conversation is taking place, it is usually taken over the shoulder, unless it is an opening to a new scene, where full shot of the characters is used. The colour scheme used for the mise-en-scene are mainly browns/yellows, blacks and blues as in the series is mainly sunny, except from when it takes place in ireland which is very cloudy and rainy, more grey tones are used then, while blacks are applied in the night time .The colours used for the clothes and equipment, and even the characters’ houses are in dull tones, it is very rare to see bright colours in this series. The main characters are the members of the club, which are men between 20 and 70, which are motorcycle lovers, and don’t follow any rules, they also run guns together and use a workshop as a cover. Other important characters which take part in the series are mainly Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) family, which are his mother, Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal), his wife, Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff), Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) his stepfather and his ex-wife Wendy Case (Drea de Matteo). This table shows the main characters in the series and their participation in each season: Sons Of Anarchy, also known as SOA or SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original) is an american crime drama, and action genre series. Representation The main characters in this series follow the typical stereotype of a custom biker, which is an advanced age man, with tattoos, that will say to which group they belong to, with a leather waistcoat, which will also say their name, the place that they belong to, the club’s name, and in some cases the place they have in the club (President, Vice president…) Marketing At a remote industrial shipyard deep in Los Angeles' underbelly, Jax, Bobby, Chibs and Tig of the fictional motorcycle club SAMCRO hunch over the handlebars of their Harleys and skid across the dirt after a shady business deal goes awry in the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy.Pull back the cameras and there are two sets of motorcycles on the scene: The hogs the actors ride in character as they torch, beat and generally brutalize rival gang members; and the bikes the actors ride in real life, which are, like the souls of the characters they play, entirely black.Outside each Star Waggon trailer is a Harley, including Kim Coates' (Tig) Wide Glide with a purple, gun-shaped drawing on the fender that co-star Charlie Hunnam (Jax) jokes "was done in nail polish." Two trailers down, Hunnam's own Dyna Super Glide is far less pristine, with rusted exhaust and mud-splattered fenders. The long-running popularity of Sons of Anarchy, which commences its seventh season in September, has been a godsend for the motorcycle industry, which was hard-hit by the financial crisis. U.S. sales, which topped 1 million units in 2007, clawed back to 465,783 units in 2013, which nevertheless reflected a 1.4 percent increase over 2012. (California accounts for 10 percent of the market.) Sons of Anarchy has been especially beneficial for Harley; the show has helped make the brand hip with younger riders to the point that Harley now leads the 18-to-34 market. (The maker provides the motorcycles to the show and has a deal with Marvel that has placed bikes in films including Iron Man 3.) Last year, Harley's U.S. sales were up more than 6 percent over 2012. "We basically saved Harley," says Sons of Anarchy co-star Mark Boone Jr. (Bobby). Meanwhile, all of Hollywood is rife with A-listers who double as serious cyclists, most famously George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Ewan McGregor and Bill Mac; Parenthood's Dax Shepard, who frequently takes to Twitter to wax poetic about his Ducati Multistrada; The Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson, who is paparazzi bait whenever he takes to the streets on his Moto Guzzi; and Jared Leto, who, when he isn't fronting his rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars, rides a Ducati Monster. Lots of clothes were also made for the series, and were afterwards selled to the public, like shirts, sweaters, and even patches like the series ones for the vests of the motorcycle club members.
